I signed up for ChatGPT using my Google account, but now I want to use my Plus account directly in my IDE through an extension that requires email and password login. I can’t find an option to switch my authentication method from Google to a regular email and password. Does anyone know how to do this?
You can’t directly switch from Google login to email and password. OpenAI’s policy often requires users to create a new account. If you do, make sure to use a different email or format your Gmail address (like adding a dot: my.email@gmail.com).
It seems you’d have to cancel your Plus subscription and create a new account with email and password. Does anyone know if you can reuse the same email after canceling?
I was in a similar situation. Instead of switching to email/password, I added a second login method (Sign in with Apple). If you use the same email, it links seamlessly and retains all your data.
If you’re using Gmail, you can delete your account and recreate it with a slight variation, like adding dots in your email address (myemail@gmail.com to my.email@gmail.com). Gmail ignores dots, but ChatGPT treats them as separate.
I’m having the same issue. Hoping they implement a feature to switch login methods without creating a new account.
I decided not to cancel because of the risk of being blacklisted for reusing my email and phone number. Instead, I’m sticking with other tools for IDE integration.
ChatGPT needs to make this easier. Canceling and recreating accounts feels excessive just to switch login methods.
