“Many YouTubers have complained about channels that steal their transcript files, run them through AI tools to make instant knock-offs. But one YouTuber is fighting back. She’s adding junk data to her transcripts—data invisible to humans but that poisons AI trying to use it for content stealing.”

Well now the AI bot developers know they have to check the .ass file for any weird text that doesn’t belong.

Yep, guess so. Darn.

Thanks for sharing this. It’s gonna be in AI developers’ minds now.
@Terryanne
That’s Reddit, not my fault.

Stop messing around
I agree
If you set up some honey traps for AI bots, you could really mess up their models over time, especially if you place them in different locations and use SEO tricks to get them noticed. Maybe the old myths, like how people used to think there were 3 'r’s in ‘strawberry’, could confuse the AI models?
I wonder if they validate their crawls using real human browsers or just rely on their AI bots?
We should have AI tools to stop unauthorized content stealing and copyright violations.

Sure, but the laws around training data haven’t been clear on this. Some think it’s okay because AI models transform the data in such a way that it’s like creating something new. If we had tools to stop AI stealing content, copyright laws would need to be updated first, to avoid impacting human creators.
@Bliss
But AI tools take and use content to make money without permission. This issue will be decided in court.

AI can’t exactly ‘reproduce’ data in the way you’re thinking. The models create new outputs based on patterns, not exact replicas. But yes, I agree the courts will have to settle this.
Thanks for the info! Now I know how to tweak my bot so it won’t get tricked by these methods.
Fun fact — in many places, setting up these types of ‘booby traps’ is actually illegal.

I don’t get how you’re comparing adding invisible text to a bot to setting a deadly trap for humans.

“NOOOO they’re stopping their work from being stolen!! This is just like killing people?”
@Shai
Yes, in a way. Slowing down the AI’s progress can lead to more harm down the line. So it’s a bigger issue.

I don’t think YouTube AI copycat videos are exactly helping the world progress.
