I’ve been using ChatGPT regularly for about a year now—mostly for homework help, work-related questions, and just general topics to expand my critical thinking.
Today, I decided to try out the voice chat feature (the headphones icon), and ChatGPT actually talked to me. It didn’t just respond—it sounded like a REAL person, complete with mannerisms. It would stammer, use filler words like “um,” and even chuckle.
Honestly, it felt as surreal as if my pet suddenly started talking to me in full sentences. I still haven’t picked my jaw up off the floor. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Definitely! I had it walk me through a recipe while I was chopping ingredients, and we even discussed different topics along the way. It was pretty fun using it hands-free.
The “umms” and “ahhs” are wild though. I can totally see a future where interacting with AI like this becomes a normal part of daily life.
It’s mimicry, but it can feel a bit unsettling at first. When I was growing up, synthesized voices sounded robotic. Now, aside from the fact that I use AI a lot for work, I wouldn’t immediately know it wasn’t a real person.
