How to use bing ai to summarize pdf

Hi y’all…

I’ve been trying to find a way to use Bing AI to summarize PDF documents automatically. I’ve heard it can do this, but I’m not sure how to get started. Could someone give me a step-by-step guide or point me in the right direction? Thankyou in advance.

I’m an engineering student and I’ve tried to use chat gpt for my papers. It’s really not good at understanding complex topics, I would not recommend using it to learn things

Bing AI PDF summaries aren’t quite there yet, but there’s a potential workaround using Bing Chat in Microsoft Edge Dev (separate download). Here’s the gist:

  1. Open your PDF in Edge Dev.
  2. Click the Bing icon (top right) to activate Bing Chat.
  3. Type “Summarize this PDF” in the chat.

This might be in testing and could be glitchy. There are other online PDF summarization tools out there too, if needed.

While Bing AI previously featured PDF summarization via the Bing Chat sidebar in the Microsoft Edge Dev browser, this capability may no longer be universally accessible. Here are two alternative methods for summarizing PDF documents:

  1. Using Microsoft Word (if applicable): If you have Microsoft Word, you can utilize its integrated tools for PDF summarization:
  • Open your PDF file in Microsoft Word, which typically converts PDF content into an editable format.
  • Navigate to the “Review” tab on the Word ribbon.
  • Select “Summarize” and specify the desired summary length (Short, Medium, or Long).
  • Word will generate a summary based on your chosen parameters.
  1. Online Summarization Tools (Free and Paid): Alternatively, explore online tools specifically designed for summarizing PDFs:
  • Smallpdf: Visit https://smallpdf.com/ for a free “Summarize” tool where you can upload a PDF to receive a concise summary.
  • DocSumm: Access https://www.docsum.ai/ for another free tool offering basic features to summarize PDF documents.
